MSWINSCK.OCX Error, how to get rid of it

Many people have been facing problems while using some vb6 developed applications like some of flood tools developed in vb6, as the apps developed in vb6 use winsock to create tcp connections with the server so ur pc, in order for the application to run smoothly, should be able to register winscock dll, some times u might face an error and ur app might fail to load, the error might show like this

This error is caused becoz ur pc is unable to load winscok due to absence of or damaged MSWINSCK.OCX
Now how to get rid of it?
1st of all lemme tell u that MSWINSCK.OCX is a system file which by default gets installed in ur system directory when u install ur operating system, so u can goto C:/windows/system32 folder and u can find the file mswinsck.ocx there. If the file is damaged or u cant find it, u can download a fresh copy from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Once u have downloaded the file, u can copy it and paste it either in default C:/Windows/System32 directory or u can paste it at any convenient location e.g root of D drive D:/.
Once u have made sure that u have got the ocx file at desired place the next step is to register it as below.
1. Elevate command prompt as an administrator:
Goto start and write cmd, a cmd icon will appear, right click on it and select "Run as adminsitrator" (winodws Vista, 7), Win Xp users can access cmd icon from Accessories.

2. Once the command prompt opens u have to register mswinsck.ocx, for that the command is regsvr32.
so if ur mswinsck.ocx is at C:/Windows/System32 the command u can write as

C:\>regsvr32 windows/system32/mswinsck.ocx

or u can access the folder like 1st type C:\>cd windows/system
and then write regsvr32 mswinsck.ocx and hit enter

C:\windows\System32\>regsvr mswinsck.ocx

Now if u are tech-challenged and going to system32 seems to bug u, still there is no need to panic as it aint necessary to paste the ocx file in system32 folder, u can paste it elsewhere and invoke it from there itself like e.g if u downloaded the mswinsck.ocx file from above link and pasted it in root system directory viz at C:/
then elevate command prompt as admin and type

Code:

C:\>regsvr32 winsck.ocx

and hit enter, ur dll will be registered and the error is over.

And as i don't want to put a big essay on this topic, one more thing i would like to add, all system do not have the 32 bit configuration of the pc, so its definitely 64 bit as in most of the windows servers. so the configuration is :


1) copy the MSWINSCK.OCX file to the "syswow64" folder on the Local Disk C.
2) go to command promt and "run as administrator"
3) type the “Run” command : “regsvr32 c:\\windows\\syswow64\\MSWINSCK.OCX” and yes, you must type the full path to the file. Type it exactly and press [enter]
4) your job is done! Run the same programs now that run on 32 bit pc! and for your server, the process id the same!

I had forgotten to mention about 64 bit operating systems because most users use 32 bit operating systems., and here procedure has to be the same irrespective of the operating system config., the only difference here is that the system folder in an x84 O.S is system32 while the same is SYSWOW64 in an x64 O.S, so the only thing that ppl need to do different is that they have to replace system32 with syswow64 in the command. The command will be like:

C:\>regsvr32 windows/syswow64/mswinsck.ocx

and if they follow the thing explained in the last portion of above tute(viz pasting ocx file at root) then they need not worry about the default system folder.

bro this is a tute to teach people how to deal with dll errors manually without having to download tools.
